The Grass Stains were just a thought chewed over by founding members Jug Poff and Bill Bagby way back in the prior century (1999). Friends and family that loved bluegrass were invited to join in the dream and The Grass Stains were born.
Original members were Jug Poff, Bill Bagby, Matt Poff, Phillip Poff, RD Dean and Peggy Dean.
The band name was a suggestion from the bass player of a rock band that Matt Poff previously performed with, after a short discussion while sitting on the tailgate of a 72 Chevy truck the decision was finalized and we've been Stained ever since.
The Grass Stains debut appearance was at the Garrett's Bend Community Center in Lincoln County, WV
From a Secret location deep in the foothills of southwest West Virginia where some Lincoln county hippies, a family steeped with musical talent and a redneck banjer picker gathered to "do a little pickin" emerged a form of gitpickin unknown to the previous generations of bluegrass pickers.
